The Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade is back on the Grand Concourse after a four-year hiatus. This year's theme was "Nuestra Musica Folklorica, Bomba y Plena," in honor of Puerto Rico’s musical traditions.
This was the 38th annual parade and organizers told News 12 that they plan on continuing this Bronx tradition. Yolanda Soto tells News 12 she is happy the parade is back. "I was waiting for this day. The atmosphere makes me feel like I'm in Puerto Rico right now. I mean, it feels so good," said Yolanda Soto. The parade also honored New Yorkers who have made a difference in the Puerto Rican community, including Bernie Hernandez of Aspira, who is the recipient of this year's Education of Service Award, and Pilar Maschi, of City Parks Foundation, who will be receive the Nonprofit Community Advocate of the Year. Show Assemblymember Karines Reyes will serve as the Grand Marshal, and state Sen. Nathalia Fernandez has been named "Madrina" of the parade. "
