It was Michael Brady's last day delivering mail in Nyack after 40 years on the job. "I'm glad I've been here. It's been a fun experience," said Brady. "Now it's time to go home and take care of me." The 64-year-old mail carrier had come back to work this year after having open heart surgery last fall. He spent the last 35 years of his career all on the same route, which he says has changed over time. He's seen changes in people and places, too. "Businesses move in. Businesses move out," said Brady. "I've watched little children grow up. Then they move out. Then they come back in to visit their parent's, and they go 'oh I remember you.''' He says the day-to-day tasks shifted over the years too, "We would get here [the post office] at like 6 a.m. and start casing mail at 6 a.m. and get out on the street about 10 a.m. There was a lot more mail then then there is now." News 12 followed him as he walked his route the last time on Tuesday. People in the community and business owners congratulated him as he enters retirement. "I wish him the very best in his retirement," said Mohamad who owns an antique shop in the village. "I wish him well and I know he will do well because he's a sweet man," said Frank LoBuono who lives in the Village. People shook Brady's hand. He got hugs and shared laughs. Drivers honked their horns including one man who yelled, "we'll miss you, Mike.'" Brady tells us that he looks forward to playing golf and doing things around his home in Rockland during retirement.
