BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Six fire departments across Erie County have been granted thousands of dollars in federal funding, Rep. Nick Langworthy’s (NY-23) office said Thursday.

The grants are through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response programs.

The following departments will receive grants:

    • Village of Depew Fire Department: $32,879.04
    • West Seneca Fire District: $62,641.90
    • Scranton Volunteer Fire Company (Hamburg): $80,622.53
    • Village of Angola: $67,428.57
    • Village of North Collins: $91,971.13
    • Evans Center Volunteer Fire Co. (Angola): $152,000

The funds are set to “enhance fire response capabilities and support staffing and safety initiatives” for first responders. They will also go towards recruiting and retention.

“These grants are a critical investment in the safety of our communities and the brave men and women who protect us,” Langworthy said in a news release. “Our first responders face significant risks every day, and these funds will provide them with the equipment and resources needed to carry out their duties safely and effectively.”
