WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Federal funding will be coming to a number of New York counties that were affected by the mid-July storms from the remnants of Hurricane Beryl.

President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that a number of areas, including Lewis and St. Lawrence counties, have been approved for federal disaster aid via a disaster declaration for the state of New York.

The declaration allows the federal funding to help state, local and tribal governments to do emergency repairs, work or replacement of buildings and facilities damaged by the storm. Certain non-profit organizations also would fall under the declaration.

Cortland, Essex and Hamilton counties were also named in the disaster declaration.

After the storms, New York Governor Hochul announced up to $11 million in emergency assistance for eligible homeowners and municipalities in seven counties impacted by a series of severe weather events from July 10 through July 16.

The rains from the remnants of Beryl were just one in a number of weather-related events across the state that caused damage. July saw the most tornadoes in a single month in New York State.

There were also a number of storms that caused damage to roads and properties in the month of August.
