BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Niagara Falls woman pleaded guilty Tuesday afternoon to second-degree vehicular assault after hitting and seriously injuring a juvenile last year, the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office announced.

The incident occurred on July 19. Officials said the juvenile, Nevaeh Quarantillo, was riding her bicycle on Ferry Avenue when Juajhane Cox, 25, struck Quarantillo with her vehicle, resulting in serious injuries.

“Unfortunately the young girl who was struck by the defendant sustained horrible injuries that she and her family will live with for the rest of her life,” said Brian Seaman, the Niagara County district attorney. “There is just no excuse for getting behind the wheel while under the influence of marijuana. This is an example of the catastrophic results that can follow.”

Cox faces up to four years in state prison. She will return to court on Nov. 27 for sentencing.
