AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — Whether it’s by plane, train or automobile, many Bills fans are traveling down to New Jersey to cheer on their team during the Monday night matchup against the New York Jets.

“There’s a lot of fans that are driving to New York, it’s an easy drive, a lot of people flying that short, less than an hour, gets you there,” said Elizabeth Carey, director of public relations with AAA of Western and Central New York.

Carey told WIVB News 4 that AAA has had a tradition for decades now to plan a few game travel packages for Bills fans to travel as a group to cheer on their team. This year, they’re having one for the Jets game, and the Rams game, however, that one is sold out.

“It’s just such a home team and everybody rallies for them and it’s exciting,” said Gail Sloma, the tour host for AAA, who has loved the Bills for 45 years. “It’s just great to support my team and I always go to the Bills games here, but just to go to a different place and support them and let them know we love them is great.”

Bills fans departed from Amherst Monday morning on a coach bus and planned to pick up more fans from Rochester and Syracuse on the way to the Meadowlands. Their stay includes food and drink at a tailgate party before the game, roundtrip transfers to and from the game, their hotel stay, their ticket to the game and breakfast the next day.

“Buffalo fans travel well,” said David Kobelin of Alleghany, who is traveling with his wife Cathy with AAA for both the Jets and Rams games this year. “We’ve supported through the lean years and the good years, and Super Bowl XXVII, we went to Pasadena, they didn’t win, but we still had a great trip.”

Even around 5:45 in the morning, Bills fans were ready for the game, and fans hoped to come home with a victory.

“We’re definitely going to win, Cook’s gonna cook, and we’re going to bring home the ‘W,'” said Brian Czech, a Bills fan from Elma. “It’s going to be a happy bus ride home.”

The Bills play against the New York Jets at 8:15 p.m. Monday.
