BLOOMFIELD, N.Y. (WROC) — Despite dealing with injuries and foul trouble, the Lyons boys basketball team took down Byron-Bergen 61-45 on Wednesday to advance to the state regionals for the second straight season. The game was the second of two Class C crossover games to determine which of the three Class C champions would represent Section V in the state tournament.

Standout Lyons sophomore big man J.J. Johnson picked up two early fouls and sat out the entire second quarter. However, the Lions were resilient and kept a 30-26 lead at halftime.

Lyons clamped down on defense in the third quarter, outscoring the Bees 14-9 in the frame to take a 44-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

Their lead built to 12 in the first few minutes of the fourth, but Brody Baubie hit back-to-back threes to cut the lead to just six. However, the Lions scored the next five points to push the lead back to double digits, keeping Lyons comfortably in front for the rest of the game.

Lyons also played all but the final minute without point guard Mikey Briggs who suffered a leg injury in the sectional finals.

Devyn Williams led Lyons with a game-high 19 points. Steven LeBrecht had 15 points while Jaheim Morris had 12.

Braedyn Chambry led Byron-Bergen with 13 points. Colin Martin scored 12 while Baubie had 10.

Lyons (22-2) will play Randolph in the Far West Regionals for the second straight season. Lyons lost to Randolph last year 57-47.

Byron-Bergen (20-5) ends their season after a historic season , winning their first sectional title in program history.
