Primetime Spotlight Team: Canandaigua girls lacrosse

Our Primetime Spotlight Team is the Canandaigua girls lacrosse team!

This perennial powerhouse traveled to Pittsford for a battle between two undefeated teams, with Canandaigua coming out on top 8-5. The Grey Wolves trailed 4-3 before scoring four of the next five goals to secure the win.

It was the second straight game where CA got behind early, but they believe the team culture is more than tough enough to handle early adversity.

“We are all so close where we can talk to each other, tell each other what to do and not get mad at each other and know that we’re trying to help each other,” senior Caroline Lyttle said. “I think that’s what really helps. Trusting each other is a big thing. Trusting who you’re going to pass the ball to, knowing they are going to do what they are supposed to do with it.”

One of the intriguing players to watch for Canandaigua early this season is 7th grader Keira Gioseffi. She has three goals and six faceoff wins through three games so far this year. It can be intimidating playing with and against girls that are much older, but Gioseffi quickly earned respect from her teammates.

“I feel like I was really nervous going into the first practice,” Gioseffi said. “The whole team was really welcoming. They all passed the ball to me and that just built my confidence.”

Canandaigua was led by Boston College commit Hannah Davis against Pittsford. She finished with three assists and one goal, which was the 150th of her career!

Nola Weaver and Lyttle each scored two goals to help pace the Grey Wolves. Samantha Lipton and Lola Schorr each also added a goal and an assist.
