ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Here are the News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Awards for boys basketball standouts.

    Large School

This two-sport athlete won sectionals in tennis last year, and followed that up with a breakout year in basketball, where he averaged 22 points, 7 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2 blocks a game.
As a sophomore, he’s already joined the 1000 point club and he was the Finger Lakes East player of the year.

This player led his team to what many people considered a huge upset win over East high school in the Sectional Finals, where he scored 20 points and was named Sectionals MVP.

He had two, 30-point games in the state tournament, leading his team to the State championship game.

Our Elite Award winner for Large Schools Boys Basketball is from Wayne — Cam Blankenberg .

    Small School

The small school winner was nearly impossible to stop in the paint on offense and a rim protector on defense.

He averaged 20 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks per game and was a dominant force in the Class C Sectionals, earning tournament MVP.

Section Six’s Randolph High School had no answer for him, as he led his team to victory in the Regional game, earning a berth in the NYS Final Four game.

Our boys Basketball Small School Elite Award winner is only a sophomore! From Lyons high school, Jamire “JJ” Johnson.
