ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Monroe County Executive Adam Bello announced the 2024 schedule for the Department of Public Health’s (DOPH) free rabies vaccination clinics on Friday.

These clinics are open to dogs, cats, and domestic ferrets over the age of 3 months old. The DOPH asks for all dogs to be on leashes, and cats and ferrets to be in carriers to ensure the safety of staff and other people at the clinics.

New York State law requires dogs, cats, and domestic ferrets to get rabies vaccines by the age of four months and owners can be fined up to $200 for failing to get their pets vaccinated and failing to keep them up to date.

Vaccinations need to be done every three years for pets with proof of prior immunization and those without documentation should be good for one year.
