ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Honor Flight Rochester’s Mission 82 touched down this weekend at the Greater Rochester International Airport.

This marked the first of six missions for the year. HFR Missions provide local veterans with what has been described as “the trip of a lifetime.”

Veterans have the chance to go on an expense-free trip to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials built in commemoration of their service and sacrifice.

The Fifty-two veterans who flew on Mission 82 included one World War II veteran, two Korean War veterans, two Cold War veterans, four Cold War/Vietnam War veterans, and 43 Vietnam War veterans. Among those flying, there were 27 Vets from the Army branch, 13 from the Navy, five Marines, and seven Air Force Vets.

With this latest mission, HFR will have flown 4,119 Veterans since 2008. These missions are funded by the community through individuals, organizations, corporations, and hundreds of volunteers.
