ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Mayor Evans has proclaimed April 23, 2024, as “Dyaisha Fair Day” in honor of the Rochester native college basketball star!

This proclamation comes in celebration after Fair was picked 16th for the Las Vegas Aces during the 2024 WNBA draft. Fair is the sixth Syracuse player to be drafted into the WNBA and is the second Rochester native to be drafted.

Fair first played for the University of Buffalo before moving on to play with the University of Syracuse. During her college basketball career, the Edison Tech alumni became the 16th woman to score 3,000 points in her career.

“Although I haven’t gotten to that place yet, I have been to many places around the world just because of a ball, so I think with that, that’s something to be proud of too,” Fair said.

Mayor Evans said Fair reached heights rarely seen in the City of Rochester and deserves to be honored in the Rochester community.

“As an Edison Tech inventor, she averaged basically a triple-double,” Mayor Evans said. “Amazing that it shows that power comes in all sizes, and for five years she represented Rochester on the national stage at the University of Buffalo and at Syracuse University.”

Following the proclamation, Fair showcased her skills by “shooting hoops” with Mayor Evans.
