Flower City Challenge to close roads this weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A traffic advisory has been released regarding the Flower City Challenge race this weekend.

YellowJacket Racing and Fleet Feet organized this annual half marathon, 5k, and kid’s half-mile race which takes place on streets around the City of Rochester. Over 2000 participants have signed up for the longer two runs and 70 for the kid’s race.

The half marathon race will begin at Parcel 5 at 7:30 a.m. while the 5k will start at 7:40 a.m. and the kid’s half mile at 10:30 a.m.

Traffic will be affected from Saturday, April 27 through Sunday, April 28. Cortland Street at Parcel 5 will be closed from 12 p.m. Saturday through 12:30 p.m. on Sunday and the surrounding Parcel 5 Streets will have no parking starting during that timeframe as well.

The following traffic advisories will be in effect on the morning of Sunday, April 28th:

• Zone 1 from 7:15 a.m. to 9 a.m., Parcel 5 on Main St. Westbound to the impacted streets on W. Main, Madison, Brown, Morrie Silver Way, Verona Street, N Plymouth Ave from Brown St to E. Main.
• Zone 1a from 7:15 a.m. to 11 a.m., Main Street from East Avenue to South Avenue.
• Zone 2 from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m., E. Main to East Ave to Right on Buckingham to Park Ave to Goodman.
• Zone 3 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Goodman from Park to Pinetum. No Exiting Off I- 490 to Goodman St.
• Zone 4 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., Pinetum to Reservoir then cross South Ave and then Reservoir to Right on Mt. Hope. Left on McLean, Left on Wilson, Right on Elmwood onto River Trail at Genesee Valley Park. Wilson Blvd. from Elmwood to McLeanduring peak runner times will be restricted southbound, use Intercampus or Ford St.
• Zone 5 from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Restrictions on South Ave & Main Street.
