ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Members of Rochester City Council have written a letter to New York State Attorney General Letitia James calling for an investigation into the conduct of Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley.

This follows officer-worn, body-camera footage of the incident was released to the public Friday, showing Doorley repeatedly invoking her position as district attorney and refusing to follow orders.

“This incident has led us to question her fitness to serve as District Attorney, and we believe an investigation by your office is warranted,” the letter reads.

The letter also explained that as public officials, City Councilmembers and District Attorney alike are held to the highest standards of ethics, accountability, and respect for the law.

“The behavior exhibited by Ms. Doorley during the traffic stop, as captured in the body camera footage, appears to violate these standards,” the letter reads.  “Such behavior undermines the credibility and integrity of our justice system and erodes public trust.”

All nine members of Rochester City Council signed the letter.

The Monroe County Legislature has also provided a statement, calling for an investigation into Doorley’s recent behavior.

“This type of behavior is disturbing and requires the fullest scrutiny and disciplinary action. Incidents like this shed light on the inequities of our criminal justice system. This behavior is an unfortunate display of privilege and should not be swept under the rug,” the statement reads.

Monroe County Legislature Rachel Barnhart released a statement of her own calling the incident “an abuse of power and double standards.”
