ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — If you’ve been to downtown Rochester, you may have seen some new parking meters.

Last fall, News 8 reported on continued problems with older models. Some of those problems included the older models not taking credit cards, to inaccurate receipts or no receipts at all, or inoperable units.

Councilmember Mitch Gruber then called for a citywide audit, and shortly after, Sarah Nowack the interim director of parking in the City at the time, said the older “Cale” models are “nearing the end of life.”

If you encounter a meter that isn’t working, the City says you can call 311 to report it.

Thursday, a City spokesperson told News 8 today that 40 updated models — with touchscreen and license plate tracking — have been installed, and are working on a plan to install more.
