ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Dozens of cyclists gathered in downtown Rochester Friday to ride outside city hall, highlighting the need for further investment in bike safety across Monroe County.

City and county leaders joined community members, affirming their support and touting projects already in the works.

“We do have more work, we acknowledge that, but we do have some early wins here,” Monroe County Executive Adam Bello said. “We have a new two-mile bike lane that we just finished on Elmwood Avenue, and this year we are installing bike lanes on Brighton Henrietta Town Line Road, East Ridge Road in Irondequoit, and Long Pond Road in the Town of Gates.”

Bello adds they’re working to improve sidewalks through a new initiative, and addressed the completion of the county’s first ever active transportation plan last year.
