Lilac Festival Forecast: Cooler with rain for opening weekend

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) – The Lilac Festival forecast is becoming more clear as we get closer to the event.

FRIDAY: Festivities on Friday will likely feature rain. A large storm system that will be centered to the east will rotate in lift that provides rain and cooler air from the north. It will be the coldest day of the week with highs stuck in the 50s.

THE WEEKEND: This system does seem to taper and migrate east over the weekend, a good sign that rain chances drop for Saturday. A weak low swinging through Ohio and into the Mid-Atlantic could spit out a shower or two Saturday afternoon, but the parade should be dry if this system behaves as advertised. Sunday will be cloudy with only slight rain chances.

If you have plans to go out on Mother’s Day for brunch, make sure to bring a jacket. The cold air from Friday and Saturday will linger here.

NEXT WEEK: There is some disagreement on how next week will end up, but there will be a chance for showers Monday along a new boundary from the north. Timing of this front is tough to nail down, so we will just go with the chance for scattered rain showers here. Tuesday should be dry, but the trend is still on the cooler side throughout the week with lows in the 40s and highs in the upper 60s.
