The Primetime 585 Spotlight Team is the Greece Athena baseball team that has won ten consecutive games.

The Trojans faced Spencerport twice last week in a divisional matchup and got a 3-2 win in the first meeting and a 6-0 victory in the rematch. Future D-1 pitcher Connor Osier (committed to Houston) was strong last week. In the first game against Spencerport, he pitched five innings with zero earned runs and ten K’s.

“We got ready like it was any other game. We knew it was a big one,” Osier said. “They (were) ahead of us in sectionals and in the division. We had to win both these games.”

He followed with another five shutout innings in his next start against Canandaigua. Osier allowed just one hit, struck out nine and also had three RBIs at the plate.

Athena’s pitching staff is talented beyond Osier. Parker Goodness, Derrick Allen, Jacob Sova and Ryan Grasley give the Trojans a lot of quality pitchers, but it’s a good problem to have. In the first contest against Spencerport, Grasley had to step up late.

“We had an unexpected injury with a reliever,” head coach Tim Sova said. “We had to go to a backup and he did a nice job. These guys found a way.”

“I did anything I could do to win. That’s all I really needed to do,” Grasley said. “Anything I needed to do to win, I got it done.”

Let’s not forget that the bats are hot for Athena. This past week, Sammy Saucke had seven RBIs. Trae Rankin can put it over the fence. He’s gone yard twice in the last week. Gio Stewart, Mikey Coyle and Cam Cook are also hitting well.

Congratulations to coaches Sova and Terry Kurtz and the Trojans.
