    RIT, St. John Fisher lacrosse earn tourney wins

    Men’s Lacrosse

    (2) RIT 23, (10) Babson 16

    After trailing 5-2 midway through the first quarter, RIT scored six straight goals to take a lead they would never relinquish.

    The Tigers led 11-9 at the half before scoring three of the first four of the third quarter to take a 14-10 lead. RIT never led by less than three after that point.

    Luke Pilcher and Kaden Brunson led the Tigers with five goals each.

    Pittsford native John Mozrall had a goal and three assists. Canandaigua grad Dom Comella had an assist.

    RIT will await their quarterfinal opponent based on Sunday’s action.

    St. John Fisher 15, (7) Wesleyan 13

    Despite giving up the first four games of the game, St. John Fisher fought back to upset Wesleyan and advance to the third round of the NCAA tournament.

    Wesleyan led 4-0 and 6-4, but St. John Fisher scored six straight goals in the quarter to take a 10-6 lead. St. John Fisher scored just one goal in the third quarter and led 12-10 heading to the fourth.

    Wesleyan cut the deficit to one with nine minutes to play, but Jordan Leuze and Matt Slowinski scored to increase SJF’s lead to 15-12.

    Leuze led all scorers with five goals. Matthew Kemmis had three goals and three assists.

    Wesleyan entered the day ranked 7th in the coaches poll and 5th in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.

    The win on Wesleyan’s home field was called the most historic win in program history by head coach Dave Dobbins, per St. John Fisher athletics.

    They will face St. Lawrence in the third round of the tourney on Sunday, May 12th.

    (11) Middlebury 17, SUNY Geneseo 10

    Middlebury scored 11 goals in the first half, eliminating SUNY Geneseo in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

    Schroeder alum Cole Bollin was among four players with two goals for the Knights.

    Women’s Lacrosse

    St. John Fisher 17, Endicott 8

    Victor grad Hanna Kumpf scored five goals and Hilton alum Sydney Carpenter scored four to lead the Cardinals to a win.

    St. John Fisher led 10-5 at the half and outscored the Gulls 6-0 in the third quarter to pull away.

    The Cardinals will face top-ranked Middlebury on Sunday, May 12th.
