ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Community members gathered at Monroe Square Monday, offering mobile DMV services for those in need. It’s part of a collaboration between local non-profits Trillium Health, East House, and Compeer Rochester.

The goal, they say, is to ensure everyone has equal access to essential DMV services. They say items like a government-issued photo ID are essential for obtaining health insurance and applying for food and housing programs.

In essence, it’s the first step in connecting people to care.

“It can be very overwhelming, very intimidating,” Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo said. “Having mobile DMV’s like this with partnering services like Trillium, East House and Compeer – they’re working with clients. They’re a trusted community name and they’re extending that trust to us so that we can help walk them through these processes so they can get the needs that they have met.”

This is the second time these organizations have come together for a mobile DMV event, and organizers say they hope to continue them in the future.
