Rory McIlroy files for divorce from Irondequoit native Erica Stoll

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from his wife Erica Stoll prior to the start of the PGA Championship.

McIlroy filed for divorce against Stoll on Monday, bringing their seven-year-old marriage to an end. They have one child together.

McIlroy’s manager confirmed the divorce in a statement, but did not go any further for comment.

“Rory McIlroy’s communications team confirmed today that a divorce has been filed. They stressed Rory’s desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible,” said a statement from his manager, Sean O’Flaherty.

Stoll is an Irondequoit native, which meant last year’s PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford was somewhat of a homecoming for the two of them. McIlroy is an honorary member of the country club and has done some of the typical Rochester-area things you would expect.

This comes two days before the start of the PGA Championship. McIlroy is heading into the championship following his fourth Wells Fargo Championship title.
