NGFD: What the new ISO rating means for your safety and your wallet

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – North Greece Fire District earns recognition today as one of the best in the state and the country! What does this new classification mean for your safety and your wallet?

There’s a lot of reasons to love our local firefighters. They save our lives, they save our homes, and with this now maybe saving us a bit of money on our insurance.

Fire Chief Kevin Battaglia says they’ve worked hard in North Greece to climb the ranks, earning an ISO (Insurance Services Office) Class 1 rating. This rating measures all the factors that determine how well fire companies respond to emergencies.

“Our biggest was our training hours and our response times and how many firefighters were put on scene. So right now, I’m very proud to say that in the town of Greece we will have 25 interior career firefighters on scene with a maximum of eight minutes. So that’s something we’re very proud of, the entire town working together,” Fire Chief Kevin Battaglia said.

North Greece now becomes only the tenth in New York State to earn a class 1 rank and there are just about 500 total in the entire nation.

Chief Battaglia says with this, North Greece residents have the potential to save on their insurance since companies will consider how well they’re protected.
