ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — It’s Memorial Day weekend, and according to a survey by Numerator 95 percent of those celebrating plan to make purchases. The top category was food and alcohol. So, Oran Spitzer visited Palmer’s Direct to You Market to see how they’re preparing.

Tom Chamot, the Corporate Executive Chef at Palmer’s said, “Buying stuff for the grill. We’ve got burgers and dogs, and probably a few small steaks as well, we’re going to do a garbage plate, buffet on the back patio, including the hash browns and hot sauce and mac salad.”

Chef Tom Chamot has been with Palmer’s for 21 years. He said even though the market will be busy, he’s going to relax.

“I plan on spending it with my family which is a really nice thing to do.,” said Chef Tom.

Palmer’s has unique burger blends but they all start off with certified Angus beef.

He continued, “Terrific brand of beef that’s scientifically proven to be better than most beef out on the marketplace today.”

Chef Tom says that the perfect burger is flipped once when grilling. But if you’re not interested in the traditional BBQ food, they also have unique picks like kangaroo, ostrich, boar, bison, and a few more.

“My favorite is the Camel, it’s delicious,” added Chef Tom.

Chef Tom says Memorial Day is about more than celebrating with food and has a message.

“Happy Memorial Day and G-d bless all those people who served and died for us.”

Next year Palmer’s turns 175 years old. Staff say the year will probably have a host of surprises for customers.
