ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Rochester Gas and Electric is working with Kaizen Ridge Farm to have rescue goats graze under transmission lines.

According to RG&E, goat grazing is an effective vegetation management method that eliminates weeds without the use of gas-powered machines.

RG&E says when service in interrupted, it is often due to trees or brush contacting power lines. In effort to minimize the issue, RG&E removes this vegetation.

Kaizen Ridge Farm in Victor is known for breeding and rescuing goats, sheep and chickens. The partnership is working to give these goats a second chance with a new role in the community.

“We have a mutually beneficial relationship that has allowed us to rescue over 25 goats and create a sustainable, eco-friendly solution for RG&E to maintain the vegetation in their rights of ways, benefiting the community and environment,” Allison Sherman from Kaizen Ridge Farm said.

RG&E and Kaizen Ridge Farm say they will bring goats to future RG&E events for the public to interact with and learn more about the project.
