ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The 2024-25 school year is just about here, and school districts are hiring. Below is just some of the positions listed online right now by districts across our area. Note: clicking on the name of each district will redirect you to its respective web page with more information on pay range, expectations and qualifications for each position listed. Keep in mind, these listings are tentative, and districts make updates frequently.
When is the first day of school in your district? There are more than 40 schools within the Rochester City School District, and several positions open at this time. There will also be in-person recruitment and hiring events for those interested in applying.

Currently, the district is indicating a shortage of workers in certain positions (mostly language arts).
- Bilingual Education – all certification areas
- Bilingual Special Education
- Career and Technical Education
- Mathematics
- Science
- Special Education (Secondary)
- English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
The bulk of openings are in teaching positions. This includes mathematics, science, art, English, and health. The district is also hiring school psychologists, counselors and substitute teachers.
Outside of teaching, there are also custodial jobs, administrative positions and food service positions.
RCSD Board votes to dissolve partnership between East High and U of R In the Greece Central School District, there are over 100 openings listed at this time. District-wide positions including teaching, clerical work and coaching seem to be where the largest number of openings are.
The district is searching for a wide variety of coaches, according to its website. This includes positions in baseball, softball, cheerleading, girls flag football, girls lacrosse, girls outdoor track, boys soccer, girls swimming, boys tennis and wrestling.
The district is also hiring bus drivers. In years’ past, the district has struggled to retain drivers, like so many other districts have.
Right now, West Irondequoit Central School District has more than 30 openings listed.
A good portion of the positions are in the elementary schools, including substitutes, recess monitors and part time teachers. The district is also looking for a handful of coaches, according to its website.
East Irondequoit School District encompasses six different buildings. Many of the available positions are district-wide . The district is looking for teachers, substitutes, teacher aides and food service workers. It also indicates a need for a school nurse.
Several featured positions listed include a school psychologist, nurse and speech language pathologist. The district is also looking for lifeguards, bus drivers and attendants.
About 20 positions are posted, with a handful of them in the Elementary school. The Penfield Central School District is also hiring in food service, bus drivers and substitutes.
Pittsford CSD has limited positions posted at this time, with just five listed right now, each district-wide.
Over 30 positions are currently listed within the Brighton Central School District. It indicates a need for teachers, specifically substitute and special education teachers, as well as coaches.
The Rush-Henrietta CSD has a number of K-12 positions available; it’s also looking for a variety of substitutes.
With around 30 current openings, the Brockport Central School District also indicates a need for a variety of substitutes and support staff.
Each district website has its own “employment” path that will redirect you to available listings. It’s important to note here that New York State law requires background checks for applicants for certification and all prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and BOCES.
