Man arraigned on murder charge after fatal stabbing on Joseph Avenue

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Rochester Police officers have made an arrest in connection with a fatal stabbing on Joseph Avenue.

Aug. 20, Brandon Wyand, 31, was stabbed in the upper body at the corner of Joseph Avenue and Seabrook Street , police said. He was taken to the hospital where he died shortly thereafter.

According to police, Wyand regularly stayed in the Joseph Avenue neighborhood.

32-year-old Justin Porter was later identified as the person who allegedly stabbed Wyand.

Police said Porter dropped narcotics packaged for street sale on Avenue D on accident, and when Wyand was walking down the street, he found the narcotics. When Porter learned that Wyand found the drugs he allegedly tracked him down and stabbed him.

Aug. 23, officers located Porter and arrested him. Rochester Police Department’s SWAT team executed a search warrant and searched a drug house that was allegedly associated with Porter. Officers said they found narcotics packaged for sale.

Porter was charged with murder in the second degree and was arraigned Saturday morning in Rochester City Court. Porter pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail. He has a hearing to meet his attorney on Monday morning. His next preliminary hearing is Aug. 28.

Police also note that the investigation determined there’s no connection between the murder of Wyand and the murder of John Johnson on Bloomingdale Street .
