ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC)— With a number of back-to-school events at the ready to prepare students ahead of the upcoming schoolyear, tons of sponsors and organizations out Sunday to support a community give-back event.

Held in the Tops parking lot on West Avenue in Rochester, there was plenty for folks to do and goodies to grab, including shoes, clothes, school supplies and food.

Organizers said they wanted as many resources in one place as possible, so people know what’s available to them.

Sunday, News 8 caught up with the woman behind the event, Commissioner Jacqueline Griffin of the Rochester City School District.

“It’s a way for people to step into their greatness. We want kids to go into school feeling good about themselves,” she said. “We are lucrative in making our children successful, we don’t want kids to feel like nobody cares, because we do care.”

There was also a BBQ and a voter registration booth available at Sunday’s event.
