ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Fire crews in Brockport were called to a reported fire at Sunnking Sustainable Solutions in the village Monday evening. Note: this building is connected with the Lineage warehouse, where the alarm pinged from. This sparked initial confusion for crews on scene.

When News 8 arrived at the scene on Owens Road around 6 p.m., heavy smoke could be seen surrounding the building.

According to officials, the bulk of the blaze, which necessitated a 3-alarm response, was in the Sunnking portion of the building. The smoke caused alarms to go off at Lineage.

A cause for concern was the lithium batteries on fire at Sunnking, firefighters said, but the official cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“They [firefighters] discovered that there were lithium-ion batteries in the fire and as a result of that, Chief declared a Level 0 Hazmat,” said Christopher Martin, the public information officer for Brockport Fire District. “That activates some county resources to assist with the mitigation and with the extinguishment of the fire.”

The Brockport Fire District was on scene with assistance from village police, Hamlin-Morton-Walker Fire District, Gates Fire District, Hilton Fire Department, Murray Joint Fire District, Kendall Fire Company, Bergen Fire Department and Chili Fire Department.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, and all employees were evacuated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Monroe County Fire Bureau – Fire Investigation Team. The extent of the damages to Sunnking and Lineage is unknown at this time.
