ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – A $16.8 million dollar Federal Emergency Management Agency grant was announced to procure and install emergency generators at the Frank E. Van Lare water resource recovery facility in Irondequoit.

The grant will go towards the acquirement and installation of three generators as well as the associated switches, transformers and switchgear to provide onsite power for all plant processes in the event of a power outage.

Monroe county executive Adam Bello was joined by congressman Joe Morelle for the announcement Monday afternoon.

“So, the generators play a crucial role in our infrastructure planning. Van Lare can rely on the generators that we’re able to install because of this grant,” Bello said. “We’re now able to rely on them as a secondary source of power.”

This is the largest federal grant to Monroe County since the Pure Waters Tunnel Project in the 1970s.
