ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – A dog has died after Ontario County Humane Society says it was left in a hot car for around four hours in Canandaigua.

According to Ontario County Humane Society, a one-year-old Goldendoodle named Pecan was brought to a vet around 3:37 p.m. on August 15 after she was found unresponsive in a car that she had been left in for about four hours.

The veterinarian staff was unable to revive the dog, and she was declared deceased due to heat exposure.

OCHS says the dog’s owner, 49-year-old Daniel Bowman, had brought Pecan with him in the car and was going to drop her off at a local doggy daycare facility but forgot to do so. He then arrived at work on North Pearl Street in Canandaigua where he allegedly parked the car in a non-shady area with the windows fully up and an outside temperature around 85-degrees.

Around lunchtime, Bowman had returned to his car and found Pecan unresponsive. He and a coworker then took Pecan to a local veterinarian clinic.

Bowman was charged with Animal Cruelty and issued an appearance ticket to appear in the City of Canandaigua Court at a later date.
