ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A wall raising event was held Thursday to mark the beginning of a new Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity build in Rochester’s Beechwood neighborhood.

The home will be one of the 20 built by the end of the year across a three-county area, with the purpose of combating inflation and rising real estate costs.

“We’re doing roughly 40 houses in the Beechwood neighborhood,” Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity President and CEO Matthew Flanigan said. “Soon we’ll be doing another 14-15 in Bull’s Head, and we’ve done over 100 in Josana. We’re always looking for that next area where we can put a number of homes, because that allows the partner family to have a community around them.”

The event was sponsored by Larry and Judith Schulman, who said it’s important to help members of the Rochester community who are less fortunate and need a place to live.

Flanigan and Habitat for Humanity thanked the community, volunteers, and all who help support them in their mission of making affordable housing more accessible to those in the City of Rochester.
