Overdose awareness event held in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The 9th annual Scotty B. Overdose Awareness Day event was held Thursday at Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Park in Rochester.

The organizer of the event, Becky Baker, tells News 8 she lost her son to an overdose. She said the gathering is a way for families to get information, mourn a loss, and celebrate recovery.

The event featured community health and informational resources for anyone who may be struggling with addiction, or has a loved one who is.

Baker said the support from the community keeps the organization running.

A community organization called REACH Advocacy plans to take over future events.
