ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — ESL members are warned of an increase in phishing attempts and scams.

The credit union said customers may have received something similar to the following text message:

According to ESL, these text messages are phishing attempts — a type of scam where the culprit attempts to steal sensitive and private information from the victim. These may also come in the form of a phone call.

These have not been the only scams in the local area — scammers have been impersonating Ontario County election officials and the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office to trick residents into revealing private information.

ESL will never ask residents to click links in text messages, provide log-in information, or two-factor authentication.

Residents who come across suspected scam texts are warned not to click on any links. ESL asks its users to call them at (585)-336-1000 for any questions about text messages.
