ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The New York State Fair closed early Sunday night after reports of gunfire, according to the New York State Police.

According to our sister station in Syracuse, State Police confirmed there was no evidence to support a shooting happened, despite reports of shots fired. Troopers cited numerous false reports. WSYR reported that people were seen running from a concert around 8:30 p.m.

A spokesperson with The Fair said they were working closely with law enforcement, adding, “The decision was made to close The Fair early on Sunday night out of an abundance of caution after New York State Police received reports of violence within The Fairgrounds.”

Officials said the safety of staff and fairgoers is a top priority and deferred to State Police for any further inquiries. The Fair is expected to reopen Monday at 9 a.m. for its final day.

This is a developing story, check back later for more details.
