    Football Frenzy: Brighton impresses, Brockport & Irondequoit top rivals

    Brighton 38, Pittsford 7

    Wes Sturrup had a pair of impressive receiving touchdowns and Gavin Parks ran in three scores on the ground as Class A Brighton scored a resounding victory over Class AA Pittsford.

    The highlight of the game came in the second quarter when Sturrup wrestled the ball away from a defender for a 42-yard touchdown catch.

    Parks ran in the final three touchdowns of the game for the Bruins, who led 31-7 at the half.

    Sturrup finished with four receptions for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Grady Hopkin threw for 233 yards and a pair of TDs. Parks had 71 rushing yards on 18 carries. Noah Wagner had an interception on defense for the Bruins and Luca DeSandis recovered a fumble.

    Brighton (1-0) will take a trip to Schroeder on Friday, September 13th while Pittsford (1-0) will host Hilton on the same night.

    Brockport 28, Spencerport 21

    The Blue Devils were down 21-20 in the fourth quarter on fourth down when two of their stars connected for a fantastic touchdown to win the game.

    With less than four minutes to play. Scott heaved up a pass to Azay Odey who came down with a deflected catch for the game-winning score.

    Landon Scott threw four touchdowns in the game, finishing with 250 yards. Tyler Judd, Jayden Taylor, and Brayden Scaccia caught touchdowns, with Judd reaching 105 yards. Scaccia had 80 receiving yards.

    The two teams were tied 14-14 at the half, with Kendall Brinson highlighting the action with an 80-yard touchdown run.

    Brockport (1-0) will travel to Athena on Friday, September 13th while Spencerport (0-1) will visit Gates-Chili on the same evening.

    Irondequoit 43, Eastridge 0

    Cameron Freeman scored a 71-yard touchdown on the second play of scrimmage and the Eagles never looked back, scoring all 43 points in the first half to cruise past their rivals.

    Taiden Makubire tossed two touchdown passes and ran for another. Brien Walker and Joshua Barr caught Makubire’s touchdowns. Freeman finished with 123 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. Cooper Moore had a three-yard touchdown run. Sebastian Redimiller recovered a fumble on defense for a touchdown.

    Irondequoit (1-0) will visit Webster Thomas on Friday, September 13th while Eastridge (0-1) will host Honeoye Falls-Lima on the same night.

    Primetime 585 spoke with the Eagles after the win.

    Hilton 43, Churchville-Chili 7

    John DiBattisto and Drew O’Buck each ran for a pair of touchdowns as the Cadets rolled to a road victory in their season-opener.

    DiBattisto and O’Buck both finished with 90 rushing yards. Matt Kosiorek threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns, completing scores to Lucas Russell and Brayden Pike.

    Hilton (1-0) will visit Pittsford on Friday, September 13th while Churchville-Chili will look to get back on track on the same evening when they welcome Rochester Prep.

    Honeoye Falls-Lima 25, East Rochester/Gananda 12

    The Cougars knocked off the Bombers after a late first-half touchdown put HF-L up for good.

    Trailing 12-10, quarterback Nathan Meacham threw the 53-yard pass to Keaton Yates to bring the score to 18-12 at halftime. Yates led the way for HFL with 152 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Meacham finished with 183 passing yards. Conor Finn led the way on the ground with 77 yards and a touchdown.

    Ben Newman threw a pair of touchdowns to Noah Mather for both ER/G scores, but the Cougars held the Bombers scoreless in a rainy first half.

    H-FL (1-0) will look to start a winning streak next week as it travels to Eastridge on Friday, September 13th. ER/G (0-1) hosts Greece Olympia/Odyssey on Saturday, September 14th.

    Canandiagua 21, West Genesee (III) 13

    The Grey Wolves opened their season with an impressive victory at the JMA Wireless Dome.

    Canandiagua got off to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter after Sam Clark returned a punt for a touchdown and Drew Williamee found Nate Brinza for a touchdown pass.

    After West Genesee scored in the third quarter, Jack Clark punched in a two-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to provide some breathing room.

    Clark had 58 rushing yards and Trey Comella ran for 61.

    Canandaigua (1-0) will host Victor on Friday, September 13th.

    Cicero-North Syracuse (III) 21, Victor 0

    Anthony Johnson had a pair of first-half touchdowns as CNS raced past Victor at the JMA Wireless Dome.

    Victor (0-1) will try and bounce back next week when they take a trip to Canandaigua.

    Christian Brothers Academy (III) 32, East/World of Inquiry 0

    The Eagles opened up their season hosting Christian Brothers Academy but were shut out by the defending Class AA state champions 32-0.

    CBA had a 20-0 lead in the first half, with quarterback Brayden Smith throwing a pair of touchdowns and rushing for another. Darien Williams and Isaiah Coleman caught his first-half touchdowns.

    East/WOIS (0-1), who won the sectional title in Class A last year, will look to get back on track next week when it hosts Arcadia on Friday, September 13th.

    Batavia 32, Le Roy/Caledonia-Mumford 0

    The first game as a combined program for Le Roy and Caledonia-Mumford did not go smoothly as Batavia took them down 32-0.

    Bronx Buchholz threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another. He finished with 125 passing yards and 106 rushing yards. Zailen Griffin ran for a pair of scores, picking up 93 yards on 12 carries.

    The Blue Devils led 26-0 at the half. The game was called in the fourth quarter due to lightning.

    Batavia (1-0) will travel to Vertus on Saturday, September 14th while Le Roy/C-M (0-1) will host Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton at Cal-Mum High School on Friday, September 13th.
