Anthony Theodorakakos took a handoff 49 yards to the house and sealed a season opening win for Penfield, even if it took two days to complete.

The Patriots began their season at home against Webster Thomas Friday night. However, storms stopped the game with Penfield driving in the third quarter and the Titans holding a 13-7 lead.

Penfield cashed in that leftover drive five plays after the game resumed on Saturday afternoon to take a 14-13 lead.

Thomas answered with a long drive of their own. Parker Carley converted a 4th and 1 at the Penfield 35 yard line on a short rush. He then took the very next snap for 17 yards on a swing pass to get Thomas inside the red zone. The drive stalled there and the Titans missed a 28 yard field goal attempt that could have given them the lead.

Zane Kropman got the next Penfield drive going with a tough 17 yard run on the first snap after the missed kick. After a couple first downs, Theodorakakos broke free with a couple stiff-arms and had to dive for the pylon. Penfield led 21-13 with three minutes left.

Thomas still wasn’t done. A long screen pass to Marco Morelli moved Thomas close to midfield. However, Aaron Hardaway forced a fumble and Alexander McVean recovered to put the Titans away.

Penfield will try and go 2-0 next week at home against Fairport. Thomas will face Irondequoit in week two.
