ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Sunday marked National Grandparents Day , a day to embrace the bond between grandparents and their grandchildren.

“I love seeing the smiling faces from grandparents, seeing them being with their grandkids and just enjoying a little breakfast – enjoying time with them, special time,” said Rod Wasicsko, the dining services director at Watermark Legacy at Clover Blossom in Rochester.

The retirement home went the extra mile to ensure its residents felt appreciated for the big day, serving them and their families a nice, warm breakfast.

“I’m a grandparent myself, I treasure spending time with my grandkids as well,” Wasicsko began. “It’s just wonderful to see the smiles.”

Grandparents Day in the U.S. is observed the first Sunday of September after Labor Day.
