ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A major expansion under way at the University of Rochester Medical Center hit a milestone Monday, with the arrival of a 246-foot tower crane.

The crane will be placed on a pre-built foundation at the URMC campus construction site as part of its multi-year, 650,000-foot hospital expansion project . The project will nearly triple the size of the hospital’s emergency department, adding more than 100 inpatient rooms and a new nine-story tower.

The crane will remain at URMC for about 16 months. Construction is scheduled to wrap up in 2028.
