Churchville certified as Climate Smart Community

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Village of Churchville was newly certified as part of New York State’s Climate Smart Communities certification program Tuesday.

To be certified, a community must provably plan and carry out efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect itself against the cumulative effects of climate change.

Churchville was one of 31 communities certified in the latest round, which included re-certifications for the towns of Brighton and Irondequoit.

The program was launched in 2014. There are 163 certified Climate Smart Communities in New York State to-date.
