ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A tote bag hitting shelves at the public market in Rochester is part of a new initiative designed to promote easy access to fresh, healthy foods for people who receive SNAP benefits — and support local artists.

The bags feature two different designs, with floral artwork on one side and a painting on the other.

Totes are priced at $6. They are made from 100 percent recycled plastic water bottles.

Rochester Mayor Malik Evans says for each bag sold, $4 goes to the Friends of the Public Market, contributing to the Market Token Program for SNAP benefit recipients. The other $2 will go to the local artists featured on the bags.

The tote bags will be available at Artists’ Row Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
