    Man found dead in the Erie Canal after drowning

    ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A man was found dead in the Erie Canal out in Newark Wednesday evening.

    Reports of a man drowning in the Erie Canal near Lock 28B came in after 3:30 p.m. According to the Newark Police Department, two people fishing saw a man in his 40s who appeared to be swimming across the canal. They told police he went under the water and did not resurface.

    Firefighters used a boat and draft system and found the body of the man. Investigators said no foul play if suspected.

    The man’s identity has not been released.
