    Aquinas 21, UPrep 2

The Li’l Irish defense has not allowed a point in two weeks as Aquinas earned an impressive Class AA victory.

After shutting out Buffalo’s Bishop Timon 26-0 in the opener, the Li’l Irish stifled last year’s sectional runners-up. Aquinas came away with four interceptions on defense.

Trent Buttles threw a pair of touchdowns for the Li’l Irish. His first was a beautiful lob to Thomas Levans III from 42 yards out for a 7-0 lead. The second touchdown of the game came all the way in the fourth quarter when Buttles scrambled out of the pocket on fourth down and found Alexis Rosado in the back of the end zone.

Jeff Logan III added a short touchdown in the final minutes for AQ.

The Griffins scored their only points in the second quarter when Kamari Miller and Cashmere Williams teamed up for a safety as Aquinas was pinned on their own one-yard line after a turnover on downs.

Aquinas (2-0) will travel to Fairport on Saturday, September 21st while UPrep (0-2) will try and bounce back when they host Pittsford on Friday, September 20th.

    Spencerport 21, Gates Chili 20

The Rangers scored a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, then the defense and run game stepped up to give Speneceport their first victory on the season.

With Spencerport trailing 14-7 in the third quarter, Tony Kanaley threw a 30-yard play-action touchdown to Kendall Brinson to tie the game up at 14.

Gates Chili answered with a touchdown pass from Gavin Sweeney to Zayden Williams to make it 20-14 after a failed two-point conversion. Amari Mariantti-Smith plunged in a one-yard touchdown on the ensuing drive to give Spencerport a 21-20 lead they would not relinquish.

Spencerport forced a punt thanks to a Noah Rodgers sack and the Rangers were able to grind out the rest of regulation.

Sweeney finished with three touchdown passes, two going to Williams and the other an 80-yard play to Amir Davis.

Marianetti-Smith had 20 carries for 77 yards and two touchdowns for Spencerport, logging the Rangers’ only first-half touchdown.

Spencerport (1-1) will host Thomas on Friday, September 20th while Gates Chili will travel to Victor on the same night.

Sam Roselli scrambled in for a touchdown in the second quarter to make it 14-7 at the half, then Roselli and Roessel connected for another touchdown in the third quarter to make it 21-7.

Later in the third, a long Bailey Frank turned into an Aiden Downs field goal as the Red Raiders went up three scores and never looked back.
