REVS announces new East Rochester facility, future plans after $500k gift

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The Rochester Emergency Veterinary Service shared details on a new facility they will be opening in East Rochester.

REVS announced they received $500,000 from the Paul Klingenstein Family Foundation, which will go towards the new facility on West Commercial Street. It will also go towards building two surgical suites and acquiring vital equipment.

The upcoming facility is currently undergoing renovations, but will soon allow REVS to treat more patients and offer further services. Four full-time veterinarians were hired to meet more demand for emergency vet care.

Irene K. Hess is the executive director of the Paul Klingenstein Family Foundation, who REVS said was concerned about the absence of emergency care for pets in Rochester. The foundation shared a close friend’s dog suffered a critical injury, but was treated by REVS and has recovered.

REVS recently opened an emergency vet hospital inside the Animal Hospital of Rochester on University Avenue in January 2024, bringing critical care back to the community after the region’s only emergency facility closed in Brighton.

The closure in Brighton followed after several hours due to staff shortages dating back as far as January 2022 .

REVS now runs overnights during weekdays from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and offers 24-hour care on weekends, beginning Fridays at 7 p.m. until Mondays at 7 a.m.
