ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A somber remembrance was held Monday among those in the sheriff’s community as they honored those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office held a wreath laying ceremony earlier in Rochester as part of a state-wide Sheriff’s Week initiative, paying tribute to those in law enforcement who have died in the line of duty.

Among those being remembered were Officer Jameison Ritter and Anthony Mazurkiewicz, as well as Special Deputy Fred Sovah, who was killed on the job in 1931 while apprehending a suspect.

    Sheriff’s Week continues through Saturday.
