AURORA ALERT: Strong G3 storm currently underway!

Conditions tonight are quickly becoming more favorable for the northern lights across WNY. As of this writing, strong G3 conditions are currently in place. On paper, this is often sufficient for a solid display of auroras locally.

Despite the seemingly favorable conditions, the show is not quite passing the eye test just yet. I managed to get several shots of green & pink pillars around 9pm, but bright moonlight and wildfire smoke have proven detrimental thus far. As a result, I can’t recommend everyone rush to the lake for a stunning display. We’re just not quite there. That said, It is possible that time could brighten the display further as midnight approaches (typically a more favored time). Eyes to the sky!
