ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Onondaga County DA William Fitzpatrick will not be pursuing further charges against Monroe County DA Sandra Doorley for her traffic stop.

Fitzpatrick was selected to review Doorley’s conduct after body-worn camera footage was released showing her interaction with a Webster police officer who attempted to pull her over for speeding.

According to the letter, Fitzpatrick determined he would not disregard who she is or “sacrifice her career on the altar of making an example out of her” by bringing “unsustainable charges”. The letter was sent to Supreme Court Justice William Taylor and the Monroe County Board of Ethics Chairperson Janson McNair.

Fitzpatrick said in the letter: “If you seriously don’t think she knows she screwed up, that she’s been embarrassed and suffered a blow to her stellar reputation, well you haven’t been paying attention.”

Fitzpatrick’s report documented each of the possible charges Doorley could have faced and the reasoning as to why none were applicable. He acknowledged her behavior was “unprofessional, it was wrong, it was completely avoidable and unnecessary and way out of line for Monroe County’s Chief Law Enforcement Officer.”

Doorley made national headlines when the footage was released . She was seen disregarding the officer’s commands, cursing at him, and repeatedly telling him she would prosecute herself if she was given a traffic ticket.

Doorley pled guilty and sent the traffic ticket to Webster Town Court. She released a video statement in which she apologized for her conduct and said she would pay the fine on the ticket.

The Monroe County Office of Public Integrity investigated the traffic stop and determined that she violated the county’s Code of Conduct. The NYS Association of Criminal Defense Layers called for Doorley to resign.

The newly formed New York State Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct is still reviewing the case.

Fitzpatrick says he considers his assignment finished unless told otherwise by Justice Taylor.
