ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – To loved ones of Shawn Rahn, he was generally considered the life of the party – a man of honor, and a protector.

Man shot dead in Lyons identified, alleged shooter arraigned

Saturday, Rahn’s life was taken from him as he was shot and killed inside an apartment on Maple Street in Lyons that deputies said the suspect lived in. According to his daughter, Bria Rahn, he was trying to help a friend in what was described as an incident of domestic violence.

“He acted immediately and right away and drove over there, and he went inside to try to break up the domestic incident and that led to him being shot,” she said. “He is very, very protective of his people and just people around him.”

Shawn lived nearby, according to deputies. It’s important to note here that what exactly led up to the shooting has not been released by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. But for Bria, it’s important the world knew what kind of a man her father was.

“He was the funniest person you’ve ever met in your entire life and anybody who knew him could vouch for that,” Bria said. “Exactly how this situation played is what he was spent his whole life doing, as well as protecting me and my sister and just being there for people and literally giving his shirt off his back to someone who needs it.”

Bria found out her father was shot and killed the same night it happened.

“I got that horrible call, and I was just in pieces, that was just my everything, he was my everything,” she said.

The suspected shooter was arrested following a search across town that lasted around two hours. He was arraigned on charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon Sunday morning. As for Bria and her family, she said it’s going to be tough moving forward.

“It’s going to be an ongoing process, the trial and all that, but I’m very, very happy for like, a lot of people get away with these types of incidents and he was fortunately not able to get away,” she said.

As for her message to the community?

“If you have the chance, tell your parents you love them.”

Bria resides in Florida. The Rahn family is raising money via GoFundMe to help with costs associated with funeral services, as well as getting him to Florida where they live. If you would like to donate, you can do so here .
