ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A man from Rochester who died after falling on a climbing and hiking trail in Colorado was identified Friday as Herbert Wise, 53.

According to the San Miguel Sheriff’s Office, wise was hiking alone on the Rock of Ages trail when he fell between 300 and 400 feet and hit his head.

Rescuers were called to the scene on a four-hour mission Wednesday morning, but officials said Wise had succumbed to his injuries by the time they arrived.

Wise was remembered as an avid climber who climbed the 46 Adirondack High Peaks as well as Mt. Hood, the White Mountains, and more. Mourners are asked to donate in his memory to Lollypop Farm in lieu of flowers.
