ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Another proud moment for a neighborhood school, as Rochester City School District renames the former Jefferson Campus at Edgerton Park after a prominent businessman and beloved community member: Andrew Langston.

Andrew Langston’s family helped celebrate the middle school’s new name Thursday evening during a special ceremony.

Langston is the founder of WDKX , a black-owned and operated radio station with a long history of uplifting the voice of the community.

“My grandfather wasn’t just a businessman he was a trailblazer he was a man who believed in the power of perseverance and the importance of community,” said Andria Langston, Andrew Langston’s granddaughter. “He founded WDKX Radio one of the few black owned and operated radio stations in the country at a time when it was nearly impossible.”

The school principal shared that this is just the beginning of the school’s partnership with the Langston family. Students will be invited to create their own podcasts, explore college campuses and be part of other initiatives sponsored by WDKX.
