    Football Frenzy: McQuaid takes another thriller, Avon gets big win

    McQuaid 28, Hilton 24

    In a game that featured four lead changes in the fourth quarter alone, the Knights scored their fourth straight comeback victory to stay undefeated.

    Zach Couch scored a one-yard touchdown with 18 seconds left, his second of the fourth quarter, to give the Knights the lead for good.

    Hilton took a 10-0 lead in the second quarter when Matt Kosiorek lofted up a touchdown Tyler Reger who made a fantastic catch. The Knights answered on the final play of the half when Will DiMarco connected with Charlie Meyer in the end zone to make it 10-7.

    McQuaid scored again in the third quarter, with DiMarco hooking up with Xavier Cox for a 14-10 lead heading to the fourth.

    Hilton regained the lead early in the frame when John DiBattisto ran in a 16-yard score to put Hilton up 17-14.

    With about six minutes left, Couch plunged in a short touchdown to put McQuaid back in front 21-17. Hilton answered with 1:26 on the clock as Kosiorek connected with Nolan Tydings in the end zone to put Hilton up 24-21. However, the lead did not last long.

    McQuaid returned the ensuing kickoff to their own 40-yard line. On third down, DiMarco found Cox for a 27-yard reception to move just outside the red zone with a minute to play. McQuaid converted two more first down to set themselves up at the one-yard line and Couch powered his way in for the 28-24 win.

    McQuaid won their first game of the year against Lancaster in double overtime, coming back from a third-quarter deficit. The Knights stormed back to beat Rush-Henrietta in Week 2 in the final minute and took down Penfield last week after trailing heading into the third.

    Through it all, the Knights (4-0) remain undefeated heading into next week’s big rivalry matchup with Aquinas. They will visit the Li’l Irish on Friday, October 4th at 6:00 p.m.

    Hilton (3-1) will try and bounce back at UPrep on Saturday, October 5th.

    UPrep 36, Rush-Henrietta 20

    UPrep’s 36-20 victory over Rush-Henrietta was fueled by quarterback Gavin White, totaling four touchdowns against the Royal Comets.

    White had 93 yards on the ground with three rushing touchdowns and racked up 145 yards in the air with a touchdown. White was starting in relief for the injured Tavion Byrd.

    The Griffins led 22-7 at the half before the Royal Comets pulled within a score early in the fourth quarter when Brandon Mangone conntected with Imani Wagstaff Jr. on fourth and goal to make it 22-14. However, Kamari Miller scored a 51-yard rushing touchdown on the ensuing play to put UPrep up 30-14. R-H would never get within a single-possession again.

    White’s touchdown pass was caught by Jayvon Johnson who had four receptions for 78 yards. UPrep’s other touchdown was from Miller, rushing for 103 yards on 15 carries.

    Cashmere Williams led the Griffins’ defense, totaling 7.5 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Kamari Miller totaled 6.5 tackles with a forced fumble and fumble recovery.

    The Royal Comets were led by Mangone who totaled two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. Wagstaff Jr. and Jackson Koppers caught the touchdown receptions.

    UPrep (2-2) will host Hilton on Saturday, October 5th. Rush-Henrietta (1-3) will travel to Fairport on the same evening.

    Thomas 17, Victor 7

    The Titans forced three interceptions to get back to .500 on the season.

    Ashton Thomas, Jake Polizzi, and Ben Adams all had interceptions to lead the way on defense.

    Marco Morelli had 82 rushing yards and scored in the first half to give Thomas a 10-0 lead at the break. Levi Kulik had 148 passing yards, throwing a touchdown to Nick Adams in the third quarter to put the Titans up 17-7.

    Victor opened the third quarter with a short touchdown by Nate Harris for the only touchdown by the Blue Devils. Kevin Booth had an interception on defense for the visitors.

    Both teams will take on undefeated squads in Week 5. Thomas (2-2) will visit Brighton on Saturday, October 7th. Victor (1-3) will host Irondequoit on the same day.

    Schroeder 36, Churchville-Chili 22

    Schroeder earned its first win of the season on Friday night after a wild fourth quarter.

    The Warriors led 21-8 at half, but the Saints earned the lead back at the beginning of the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass from Luke Munding to Maximus Tomaszewski to lead 22-21.

    Schroeder responded with a kickoff return from Aydin Stephens, taking it to the endzone to put the Warriors back on top. A successful two-point conversation on a pass from Kalin Watkins to Anthony Amico gave Schroeder a 29-22 lead.

    The Warriors sealed the victory with another touchdown from Stephens on a short rush to take the 14-point win.

    Schroeder (1-3) will travel to Spencerport on Saturday, October 5th. Churchville-Chili (1-3) will host Gates Chili on Thursday, October 3rd.

    Irondequoit 43, Spencerport 29

    The Eagles asserted their dominance on Friday night, as they led 43-0 at the half to move to 4-0 on the season.

    Taiden Makubire threw three touchdowns for the Eagles, finishing with 165 passing yards. Cam Freeman had a pair of rushing touchdowns.

    Brien Walker, Cristian Freeman, and Josh Barr each had touchdown receptions.

    Cristian Freeman also had a pick-six on defense, with Patrick Thomas snagging another interceptions.

    While the Rangers fell in a big hole, they did have a strong second half by scoring four touchdowns in the final two quarters.

    Irondequoit (4-0) will visit Victor on Saturday, October 5th. Spencerport (1-3) will try and bounce back when they host Schroeder on the same day.

    Avon 41, Alexander 14

    In a battle of undefeated teams ranked top-five in the state, Avon earned a statement win over Alexander to move atop the Class D standings.

    Kalman Dolgos had a fantastic day, finishing with five total touchdowns. It’s his second straight game with five TDs.

    Dolgos ran for four touchdowns and threw for a 60-yarder, connecting with Blayden Borsching for a long score.

    After a scoreless first quarter, the River Hawks scored three times in the second to take a 20-6 lead at the half.

    Dolgos ran in two scores in the third quarter to make it a 34-6 game, putting the contest to rest.

    Brody Heckman and Kingston Woods both ran in touchdowns for the Trojans. Dylan Pohl registered 2.5 sacks on defense for Alexander.

    Avon (4-0) has outscored their opponents by 141 points this season. They will host Notre Dame Batavia/Byron-Bergen on Friday, October 4th. Alexander (3-1) will try and get back in the win column when they host Geneseo/Mount Morris on Saturday, October 5th.

    Brighton 41, Gates Chili 0

    A three-touchdown, 171-yard performance by Gavin Parks led Brighton to a shutout victory on Friday night.

    All six of Brighton’s touchdowns were on the ground, totaling over 370 rushing yards on the night.

    Parks scored a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter, followed by a five-yard rushing score from Amari Snowden. The other Bruins touchdowns were on runs from Zack Rossignol and Sal Burge. Burge earned 65 yards on seven carries, and Rossignol totaled 54 yards on four carries.

    Noah Wagner led the defense that held the Spartans to zero points with five tackles, including two tackles for loss and a pass breakup. Kaleb Matthews had five tackles, Zahmar Tookes made four and Matthew Heininger totaled three tackles for loss.

    Brighton remains unbeaten while Gates Chili is still looking for its first win.

    Brighton (4-0) will play Webster Thomas at home on Saturday, October 5th. Gates Chili (0-4) will travel to Churchville-Chili on Thursday, October 3rd.

    Canandaigua 35, Athena 14

    After a scoreless first quarter, the Gray Wolves scored a trio of rushing touchdowns to take a 21-0 lead at the half and never looked back, moving to 4-0 on the season.

    Trey Comella had 13 carries for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Jack Clark had a pair of touchdowns as well, carrying 15 times for 113 yards. Asher Colletti also had a 28-yard touchdown run. He finished with 142 yards. Sam Clark and Payton Holtby had interceptions on defense.

    Carter Fabian had a rushing touchdown for the Trojans with I’Zick Reaves also scoring on a fumble recovery on defense. Jacob Strebel threw for 184 yards for Athena.

    Canandaigua (4-0) will host Monroe in what should be a tremendous matchup on Friday, October 4th. Canandaigua is ranked 5th in the Class A state rankings and Monroe is ranked 7th, with the Red Jackets set to host East/WOIS on Saturday to close out Week 5.

    Athena (1-3) will visit Arcadia on Saturday, October 5th. The two teams already met in Week One, with Athena winning 14-13.

    Batavia 34, Arcadia 0

    The Blue Devils have allowed just six points this season, as Batavia pitched their third shutout on the year to stay undefeated.

    Lakoda Mruczek had a pair of interceptions for the Blue Devils with Will Stevens closing the second quarter with a pick. Maggio Buchholz had seven tackles, with two coming for a loss.

    Bronx Buchholz had a passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns. He had 159 passing yards and 119 rushing yards. Zailen Griffen had ten carries for 88 yards and a touchdown as well as a fantastic receiving touchdown where he broke multiple tackles and absorbed a big hit for the score. Nolan Ball also had a rushing touchdown.

    Batavia (4-0) will travel to Honeoye Falls-Lima on Saturday, October 5th in a matchup of the two top teams in Class B.

    Arcadia (0-4) will host Athena on the same day for the second matchup of the year between the two rivals. Athena won in Week One 14-13.

    Brockport 47, Wilson 14

    Brayden Scaccia’s two touchdowns on the ground led Brockport to a 47-14 victory over Wilson on Friday to get the Blue Devils back in the win column.

    Scaccia finished with 12 carries for 74 yards, followed by Ryan Miller with 13 rushes for 69 yards and a touchdown.

    In the air, Landon Scott threw for 107 yards and two touchdowns, both caught by Tyler Judd who totaled three catches for 85 yards. He also added an interception on defense.

    Brockport (3-1) will face Vertus on the road on Saturday, October 5th. Wilson (1-3) will travel to East on Friday, October 4th.
